After hours drinks at the Cricketers

This Cutting is from an 1885 copy of The Essex County Chronicle it reports that our George was fined ten shillings plus eight shillings costs for keeping his pub open late. The story has some humour.
The court record was scanned from the original court book. It says he was prosecuted for keeping licensed premises open during prohibited hours. Above is another old picture of The Cricketers at Danbury. This photograph dates from about 1910 and shows the pub probably little changed from George's days. He was landlord here with his wife Emily and daughter Christiana from March 1884 until late 1886 when his newly married daughter took over the tenancy with her husband Thomas Langman
